Chinese, US troops reach agreement for archival partnership for 2026

(MENAFN) The Chinese and American militaries have reportedly reached a preliminary plan for archival cooperation for 2026, according to general reports. The announcement came Wednesday from Beijing, following a virtual meeting between the two defense establishments. During the discussions, both sides exchanged views on military archives and agreed on an initial framework for cooperation next year.

This development follows Chinese Defense Minister Dong Jun’s first in-person meeting with US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth in Malaysia in October. The two officials met again in early November after Chinese President Xi Jinping and US President Donald Trump held their first summit in South Korea, during which the defense chiefs committed to establishing military-to-military communication channels.

US Defense Secretary Hegseth previously stated on social media platform X, “Admiral Dong and I also agreed that we should set up military-to-military channels to deconflict and de-escalate any problems that arise. We have more meetings on that coming soon.” He added that maintaining peace, stability, and strong relations is the “best path” for both nations.

The Chinese Defense Ministry also noted that Beijing “will continue to assist the US side in locating the remains of American military personnel who went missing in China since the War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression.” This includes the legacy of volunteer US pilots, known as the “Flying Tigers,” who supported the Chinese Air Force during World War II.

Some surviving members of the group visited China in November 2023, marking their first trip in 80 years.
